MTN. MAN'S (LES') "LITTLE SISTER"
reply to Big C from NYC (broc1980)   by Dawnrest
It's easy to look at it here. "LITTLE SISTER" was a buckskin red nose with some top notch linebred and inbred ancestry and ancestral traits, heavy in Burleson/Medlin/Teal and Teal's "JEFF", sire of Bass' "TRAMP RED BOY"/Medlin's "OUT-LAW', and the well known Hampton's "BULLET" blood, crossed with double bred, top and bottom, Carver/Hernandez up from "CH"OX", who like "CH"RASCAL", won over "SNOOTY". "CH"OX" is crossed with Carver's "CH"IRONHEAD", also top and bottom of "LITTLE SISTER". http://www.dawnrestdogs.org/PEDLITTLESISTER

Hampton's Bullet & Jones' & Holt's Gr Ch Booger
reply to Big C from NYC (broc1980)   by Dawnrest
That Hampton's "BONE CRUSHER" is the same Hampton, he was the son of Hampton's "BULLET". "BULLET" was sired by Burleson's "BUTCH", son of Teal's "BO". "BO" was also Burleson breeding. Hampton was a friend of the Burlesons, Joe Medlin, Ernest Simpson and Howard Teal. Hampton dogs came from a great line of dogs. Some of the old Mims crosses had Hampton's "Bone Crusher" in them. Mr. Marks' "Chocolate" was sired by Marks' "Black Jack", the son of Hampton's "Bone Crusher", a son of Hampton's "Bullet" and out of Medlin's "Liz", a.k.a. Marks' "Black Beauty" and is Tom/Medlin/Teal/Burleson. Glad to see you care about proper dog breedings. Jo Tan had a pet shop in NY, he owned "Switchblade" a few years back. Bocook? The Booger you ask about is the same Booger the ADBA lists as Bugger? I do know the breeding of this "Booger" too. "Gr Ch"Booger, a.k.a. "Bugger", I know why you ask, everyone on the net has this pedigree open, this should help the online pedigree search, "Booger's" sire is Jones' "RENO" and "Booger's" dam is Jones' "BLAZE". He was bred to Jones' "Black Gal". The Holts had many dogs go through their hands, some weren't bred that much, including "Booger" who was studded by Jones. You may want info from Mike Brousseau owner of "Ch"Buster" and "Ch"Tom", look for Bosse, Quebec Pit Bulls in Quebec Canada.

reply to Big C from NYC (broc1980)   by Dawnrest
I have Jones' Gar Baby as by Booger and out of Black Gal. Gar Baby is inbred, brother to sister. I have Booger and Black Gal as both being by Jones' Reno and out of Jones' Blaze. Don't see no Russell associated. You would need the registry if they have it to be sure because there is many Jones' Reno including C.Jones, G.Jones, F.Jones, M.Jones, R.Jones all having Reno, and others. Next is Jeans Reno which also connects to a Jones. One Jones Reno does connect to and appear to be the same as Ed Crenshaw's Reno, another is his son. I can find another Jones' Reno but it doesn't coincide with Blaze, none do. J.Crenshaw named his dogs after others and has a Reno and R.Jones also connects to that one. One Reno is down from tufftown staff blood. The one that seems most likely is the Ed Crenshaw for many reasons except the age per generation is not right. Do you have any other info for me? Does the registry have this as an open or unknown pedigree? That part of pedigree will be posted soon.
The Dog with a Heart!
by Dawnrest
G.Cummings of the Fork Farm was one of the men who talked about the dog with a heart often. Cummings periodical "The Pit Bull Advisor", was popular at the time and "ART" was exploding the dog scene. He was soon to be stolen, and we can only imagine how many great offspring he would have produced under his name. "ART" is one of the most honest ROM's. He earned his title, there was no puppy manufacturing going on here. Percentage wise, he was one of the best. Many ROM's produce hundreds of offspring or stud to every dog possible or inbreed repeatedly. Figuring percentages by comparing population, it is easy to see why in reality many ROM's are actually very poor producers. There is a difference between dog breeding and breeding dogs. Most buyers of dogs end up with the quantity bred dogs in their pedigrees and the later, become more popular, it's the new way. "GR CH"ART" - THE DOG WITH THE HEART, was a great producer, a GR CH and an honest ACE. Being Valentines Day I thought it fitting to remember a famous dog of the past and no dog would better represent today then Stinson's & Glover's & Adams' & Crutchfield's "GR CH"ART" ROM 7xw. I thought about writing of the family of dogs bred by (Love), then I thought of writing about Undertaker's "CH"HEART BREAK", I thought of mentioning the new kennel named Valentine, they just don't compare to "ART", by Clayton's "ELI JR." 2x out of Clayton's "JAVA", a Boudreaux' "ELI"/"BOZE" and Carver's "PISTOL"/Ed Crenshaw's "RENO" cross. "ART" was a beautiful reddish colored athlete. A great example of the positive outcome of a tradgedy caused by a man we call Valentine and how we can turn things around for the better. "GR CH"ART" - THE DOG WITH THE HEART - R.I.P..
COWBOY / JEEP
reply to Taylor Bros.   by Dawnrest
Most people don't take much seriously there. Not to worry, NINE TOES was owned and kept on the yards of R-Gang, City Boy, Henry B., Southern Comfort, etc. and was R-Gang's inbred CH MIDNIGHT COWBOY / GR CH CANDY foundation dog. He produced 2 champions and winners from just 1 of his few breedings. These men wouldn't of had such a beautiful animal on their yards had there not been a reason. Billy T, House of Bull is or was show conformation. If you need to know more use the e-mail. As far as CH MISSY goes, she won 4 all recorded. She then won 1 not recorded and would have been a GR CH.. In time it was decided to go for her recorded GR CH and not recommended because she was old and had no teeth left in her head, even so she almost won and was picked up game. This can be verified through Valiente and Henry B. and others. I personally knew this dog and some of her offspring. She produced as good as any dog could and was said by many to be the best JEEP ever produced which is documented in the F. Rocca book and the AGDT. I also knew Pete Sparks who personally told me Lee's CANDY MAN could never have been bred so when it comes to COWBOY blood one is honest and the board you went to is unknown. Pete paid close attention to offspring from his ancestry and I believe Pete. If his dog was in that blood he would of been proud. HUNKY is in the ancestry of COWBOY and Pete was proud of that. That same board talks about a different pedigree for COWBOY because it looks better, when infact way back in the recognized pedigree it actually looks better. As far as the Davis' PIGGY and PEGGY, there was another man with the name Davis who owned a dog named PIGGY and Eunice owned a PIGGY who was not originally called PIGGY II. People writing pedigrees started distinguishing between the two by adding the II after Eunice's PIGGY. I knew Gene Thurmond and have friends who also did. When I use to talk to Gene, he did all the talking, after a while I'd get bored until next time. You and I both know Two Hawks because I remember you met him. Two Hawks knows Headhunter (GR CH SOLUTION fame) which it's hard to tell if that's the original Headhunter talking on that board. Two Hawk knew almost every dogman in and around Florida back then but not House of Bull. The Three Dog Combo, COWBOY/CHIVO/PIGGY is the way Thurmond more than anybody advertised this blood, usually with pictures of 3 dice. While that same board has also discredited Thurmond and CRACKER JACK on occasion, also owned by Eunice in the past, he uses the Three Dog Combo/dice to advertise his dogs, and he does a lot of advertising puppies for sale on a lot of boards. I knew the owners of BLACK ANNIE and CLINT BLACK by SHOTGUN. They lived in CT.. Honesty is very important when teaching the public, and you must be careful where you learn from.

Clint Black, a.k.a. Big-Up
reply to Robert (khandlin)   by Dawnrest
I agree with you however defending that board is going to be rough as he continues to allow and talk trash about many dogs related to his dogs on paper. I have four pictures of Clint Black, a.k.a. Big-Up wearing a Leather Dawnrest collar with his New York style show cropped ears. I have pictures of Higgins walking Clint Black and playing with other dogs in the park near their residence. I also have pictures of Black Annie, also owned by Higgins. I'am good at holding back about things I know, in this case it is very hard. I will do my best for the betterment of the breed as a whole. The main reason I'm responding here is to hear your opinion about deleting anonymous. I don't want you to think the thread was deleted purposely and I welcome you to this board. Your opinion is of value! Good luck with the Big-Up stuff.
Have questions about dogs
reply to Redge   by Dawnrest
Glad to see a developing interest in the dogs. I know various body parts are removed with the cocks, but usually the ears are not cropped on these dogs unless there is a reason, what type of ancestry is this dog, what type of crop is it? What type of cocks do you have, are you in the states? Finkle Winkle assisted with the rest of your question, if you need more help ask. As the ear heals it may curl or thicken.

well first of all i have madigan clarets, and yellow leg hatch, and greys. I want to get started breeding
spangled hatch because they have done well in the past years. I'm only 19 years of age but i know enough about cocks, began when i was 13 and for dogs? nothing much. all i know that its a big headed pitbull and is very rough and its all black except her chest (white) other than that im not sure what type of pit. I have been asking people and yet nobody has told what kind of bloodline. I live in florida. well
thanks for time.

Have questions about dogs
reply to Redge   by Dawnrest
The dogs and cocks are much different in the way to be positive {depending on honesty} about there type. With dogs you can judge by the different strains and sometimes still not be sure. The problem is nowadays there are not many pure strains and the ones that are can be similar. So you need to know an honest pedigree of your dog to answer your question. If the breeders don't have a pedigree or you don't know them, then you may never know. With cocks it is easy to tell the difference between a Boston Roundhead, Blue Pyle, Claret, Armstrong, Akins, Wingate, Oakgrove, Blueface, Greys, Laceys and so on by looking at them. The dogs need an honest pedigree in respect of all the breeders behind them. An example would be why a good bred dog with no pedigree can end up on the streets or in the pound, they become muts either way, heinz 57. If this happened with roosters, which are extremely well bred even without papers, you could likely tell the type. This is a subject the dogs need improvement in to what it was many years ago. I think it was great to be able to tell a Hemphill dog from a Komosinski dog or a Lightner red nose dog from a Colby dog. If you do with dogs what you understand about roosters, your attributes could improve stock.
CH JEEP'S PERFOMANCE FACTS
reply to Druid   by Dawnrest
JEEP became a champion by winning over a tremendous head dog known as Stinson & Stepp's CH BLACK GLOVER. GLOVER was picked up game in 2:05 at 42 lbs.. His first win was over Plyant's CH KATO, a 4 time winner who beat Mayfield's SNAKE in :22. JEEP beat KATO in :28 at 43 lbs.. He went on to beat Cooper's WEENIE, a 2 time winner in :58 before winning his champion over the champion BLACK GLOVER. He then went on to win over O. Stevens' CH HOMER, a 4 time winner in an amazing 3:43 while HOMER went almost 3 hours on 3 legs, an incredible feat. JEEP won over 2 good dogs and 2 champions. He went on to produce CH BLONDIE, CH BRONCO, CH BUDWEISER, CH COBRA, CH DARBY, CH DEMON, CH HURRICANE, CH MISS ROOSTER, my favorite - Henry B's CH MISSY won 5 - 1 not recorded and 1 game loss with no teeth left in her mouth to GR CH TROUBLE - a DBL bred CH SPOOK bitch - she beat Boyle's CRANKSHAFT - a 2 time winner and litter mate to DBL GR CH TORNADO in 1:05 - Fat Bill & Hick's ASSASSINETTE in 1 hour - and Henry B's CH MISSY a.k.a. Valiente's CH MISSY is said by many to be the best JEEP ever produced, CH NINJA, CH RANGER, CH ROCKY, CH SHORTY, CH SWAMP DOG, GR CH TANK, CH TRAMP, CH TURTLE, CH ZACH, etc..

Henry B's (Valiente's) CH MISSY
reply to Druid   by Dawnrest
HER ASKING PRICE WAS 15,000. CAN YOU IMAGINE, NO ONE WENT FOR IT BECAUSE OF HER AGE. JUST BEFORE SHE DIED IT WAS 5,000. I KNEW HER WELL AND TO THIS DAY I TOO BELIEVE SHE WAS THE BEST JEEP PRODUCED. HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRIED FOR HER RECOGNIZED GR CH BY TAKING HER INTO A YOUNG DOG WITH PERFECT ENAMEL CONSIDERING CH MISSY HAD NO TEETH LEFT AT ALL.
CONFLICTING PEDIGREE
reply to Mata Leon   by Dawnrest
THANKS FOR THE E-MAIL SHOWING SO MANY GENERATIONS OF ANCESTRY. I KNOW YOUR INTERESTED IN KENO AND BIG KOKO BECAUSE THEY ARE IN YOUR DOGS ANCESTRY. FIRST I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE AS THE ANCESTRY SAYS. IT SHOWS THEM AS THE GRANDSIRE AND GRANDDAM OF WALDMAN'S CH BUCK ON YOUR PEDIGREE. THIS IS OR WAS COMMON ON ADBA PEDIGREES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT REGISTRY YOUR PED IS FROM. THE LATE A. WALDMAN AND HIS BUCK ARE POSSIBLY BETTER KNOWN AS STP'S GR CH BUCK ROM 7XW. BECAUSE OF THIS IT MAY BE MORE IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO SEARCH FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE TO BE THE PROPER LINEAGE OF HIS SIRE AND DAM AS I CAN ONLY GUESS. IN VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS, IN VARIOUS REGISTRIES, IN VARIOUS MAIL AND IN VARIOUS STATEMENTS IT SEEMS BUCK NOT ONLY HAD THE SIRE SHOWN IN YOUR PEDIGREE BUT ALSO LITTLE TATER IS SAID TO BE HIS SIRE. AS WITH ALL DOGS THE BREEDING IS AS HONEST AS THE PEOPLE BEHIND THEM. FIND WHAT YOU BELIEVE TO BE TRUE. AS AN EXAMPLE T.L.WILLIAM'S BOOK ENTITLED "COURAGE" SHOWS LITTLE TATER AS BUCK'S SIRE AND BULL BOY BOB THE GRANDSIRE, FRANK ROCCA'S BOOK ENTITLED "AMERICAN BULL TERRIERS" SUGGESTS ON PAGE 79 THE SAME WHILE FRANK ROCCA'S NEXT BOOK "FIGHTING FOR LIFE" SHOWS BUCK'S PEDIGREE ON PAGE 231 WITH GOLDEN BOY AS HIS SIRE. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE WILLIAMS' BOOK SHOWS BUCK'S DAM AS RED LADY SIRED BY KENO AND OUT OF DOLLY. THIS THEN CONFLICTS WITH ROCCA'S BOOK WHICH SHOWS RED LADY AS SIRED BY BOLIO AND OUT OF RED. THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE SO AS TO BACK UP WHAT I'M SAYING. IF YOU THEN ADD EVERYTHING ELSE I'VE HEARD AND STUDIED AND THE MANY CONFLICTING READINGS, THEN ADD THAT TO THE DOGS OWNERS OPINIONS, GOOD LUCK. I WILL SAY SOME BREEDERS, NOT TO MENTION THEIR NAMES, BREED LARGE QUANTITIES OF DOGS FROM MANY DOGS OR SEVERAL DOGS WHILE USING ONE NAME TO OBTAIN TITLES SUCH AS ROM OR POR. ONCE THESE AND OTHER TITLES ARE OBTAINED THEY BENEFIT EVEN MORE ON SALES FROM QUANTITY PRODUCING WHICH THEN CAN CONTINUE. LETS WRAP THIS UP BEFORE IT TURNS INTO A STORY ABOUT THE DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE BREED FROM CERTAIN ASPECTS OF THE LAST 20 OR 30 YEARS AND THE MANY GREAT LINES AND STRAINS THAT HAVE BEEN LOST FOREVER DUE TO SIMILAR HAPPENINGS WITH OTHER TITLES. I WANT YOU TO KNOW DAWNREST HAS A BIT OF SOME PATRICKS FOUNDATON WORKING ITS WAY IN THE STRAIN. TO SUM IT UP, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO IF YOUR HAPPY WITH YOUR DOG AND IS HE OR SHE EVERYTHING YOU HOPED FOR. I WISH YOU AND YOUR DOG OR DOGS THE BEST OF LUCK EITHER WAY IN THE FUTURE AND YOUR WELCOME TO KEEP IN TOUCH AS I APPRECIATE THE INTEREST.
Andre Giroux Dogs
reply to Zoi (zoigamedogs)   by Dawnrest
Glad to know someone is as interested in Giroux dogs as you. I thought you may be interested in seeing the pictures and information on Andre Giroux which have been in the gallery if you haven't already. One of my favorite thoughts of Andre is when he and Ralph Greenwood presented Doug Jacobs with a tall trophy for Doug and Terry's "FANCY PANTS" BIS 1x, sired by Colby's "AMOS", son of Heinzl's "GRINGO". "FANCY PANTS" is in Butcher Dogs and Dawnrest Dogs. He was the sire of Queenie's "ROSCO" 1x, pictured in Lou Colby's book. "ROSCO" was a dog everyone was after and he sired McDonnell's "MAJIC" 1x, an extremely rough dog who sired Dawnrest's "MAD MAXINE". Now the names MAD MAX and MAXINE which I also named dogs and similar names are commonly used in the breed. Because Andre had so many good dogs choosing his best is difficult but I prefer "GR CH"CARLO", some of that old inbred Taylor's (Cook's) "BILL" 6xw (Henshaw, Donovan, Komosinski, Clouse) crossed with Clyde Mason's and Earl Skaggs best. You see some of this blood back in "JEEP" "OTIS" crosses and it lives on because of Andre. I have this same blood in my dogs, but I also have it crossed with inbred Carver's "IRONHEAD" way back in the blood without Giroux dogs.
DOG FEEDS
reply to TY (bongaznboy)   by Dawnrest
IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT OR DON'T HAVE A LARGE AMOUNT TO FEED, THE BEST COMMERCIAL FEED KNOWN TO DOGS IS "WELLNESS". YOU CAN FIND IT IN DAWNREST DOG SUPPLY AND READ QUITE ALOT ABOUT IT. LOOK UNDER THE NAME - OLD MOTHER HUBBARD. THIS FOOD IS SIMILAR TO WHAT A WILD CANIVORE WOULD EAT AND BETTER. IT'S WHAT A DOG SHOULD EAT, NO CANCER MEAT UNFIT FOR HUMANE CONSUMPTION, AND NO JUNK. THIS FEED IS SAID TO BE THE BEST BY MORE TRUTHFUL STUDIES THAN ANY. MY OPINION IS AS SUCH. OTHERWISE, MOST DOG FOOD COMPANIES GET ALL THEIR INGREDIENTS FROM THE SAME SOURCES AND THEN ADD OR CHANGE THEM SLIGHTLY. THE NEXT BEST FEEDS WOULD BE JUST THE PLAIN STORE BRAND NAMES, JUST PLAIN GRAINS AND ADD YOUR MEAT, VITAMINS, MINERALS, AMINO ACIDS, AND CONDITIONING PRODUCTS YOURSELF. SOME OF THE WORLDS MOST TRUTHFUL STUDIES HAVE AGREED WITH THIS, NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ANY FEED COMPANIES INCLUDING MR. LIEBERMAN, NOT OF THE USA. THIS IS MY OPINION AND I STAND BY IT 100%.

The BARF diet
reply to The Ronin (artofdarkness)   by Dawnrest
THE BARF DIET IS ALSO A VERY INTERESTING DIET WHICH MANY DOG OWNERS WILL SOON BE MORE ASSOCIATED WITH AND I'M GLAD YOU BROUGHT IT UP. I AGREE WITH CERTAIN ASPECTS OF IT. I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD IF DOG OWNERS HAVE THE TIME TO PROPERLY CARE FOR THE RAW MATERIALS. BACTERIA (MICROORGANISMS) ARE A GROWING CONCERN IN ALL RAW DIETS. BACILLI, COCCI, SPIRILLA ETC., ETC. CAN CAUSE MANY DISEASES IN CANINES AND NEW DISEASES ARE BECOMING FREQUENT. NO ELEVATED CHANCE OF BACTERIA SHOULD BE TAKEN, ESPECIALLY AT CRUCIAL TIMES OF TRAINING. WE DO HAVE TO BE CONCERNED WITH THE CARE CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS MAY TAKE IN USING SUCH A DIET. I NEVER FEED A DRY DIET AND DON'T RECOMMEND THAT EITHER. THERE ARE MAY GREAT FOODS, SUPPLEMENTS, AND PRODUCTS TO COINCIDE WITH VARIOUS DIETS, AMOUNTS OF FEED, CLIMATES, AND INDIVIDUAL DOGS. WHILE I BELIEVE IN WELLNESS AS A COMMERCIAL DOG FEED AND TY ASKED ABOUT DOG FOOD, THIS IS A SUBJECT WE COULD WRITE A BOOK ON. THERE IS THOUSANDS OF OPINIONS AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO LEARN FROM ALL OF THEM.

DOG FEEDS IN COLD WEATHER
reply to E.B.L. knls   by Dawnrest
I thought it best to give an example of what works up here and leave the rest to you. I try to feed similar to what a wild canivore would consume as they prepare for the cold and what they would want to consume if they were able during the winter months, but much more quantity and quality. I would not recommend feeding dry as you stated. Every pup or dog is different, so you need to adjust their feed accordingly. I feed aproximately 3 times the amount for 6 months during the winter. This is more than 12 cups of liquid soaked feed per head. I use plain 21-22% protein grain with powdered vitamins, minerals and amino acids added. To that is added varying meats, greens, vegetables, red cell, fats, calcium phosphorous, broths along with some choice ingredients to keep them active while maintaining heavy fat for warmth. Up here water is ice on contact, so the feed is soaked in warm water mixed with the above for hours until completely absorbed. They have hay and straw beds of 8 inches and their housing faces south because of severe northeast windchills. Another problem that arises is being able to get to them, find them and dig them out to feed them. This can be good on there part because deep snow can insulate them similar to an igloo and winter is coming on full force with deep snow and drifting. When the seasons change to warmer climates it begins an entire new story even though much of their weight will already be off. Ya gotta love em'!

Dogs with titles on paper
reply to iceman   by Dawnrest
Do you see alot of titles in other pure strains such as pure Loposay, pure Neblett, pure Boudreaux, pure Ed Crenshaw, pure Butcher, pure Hemphill, pure Heinzl, etc.. There are many registrys and they all keep different records. It would be best to know the quality of the individual dogs on pedigrees through extensive research in order to choose your interests due to the possibility of so many kinds of titles able to be honestly earned, and some dishonest. The Colby strain has been genetically unchanged since the introduction of the imported Irish GALTIE dog. Lou Colby dogs are now the purest old family on the planet and the original seed stock. The Colby dogs came from a collection of many proven dogs around far northeast New England as is reflected by the names, most were English and Irish. Due to greed and periodicals many men were driven in different directions in the 70's, 80's and 90's. The Lou Colby blood has produced many good dogs and when outcrossed it has produced even more. An example is the exact dogs you named. JEEP is almost half Lou Colby close up on paper, but way back in Honeybunch is some more. RED BOY is more or less half Lou Colby close up on paper and way back on his bottom side is more. DIBO is about 1/5th Colby, and most bloodlines have more Colby in them then they may reflect on paper. So infact, there may be more titles then we'll ever know and men like Jack White, John Mahon, Mitchell, Sweeney, Galvin, McCaffrey, Duffy, Story, Kennedy, etc. deserve credit up in New England 100 years ago. Colby used the best from some of them and others. You'll find Colby in all of this breed, most dogs now have Lou Colby infuence in them some place through DIME. So many titles would not have happened had it not been for Lou. Dog men all over the country were after the Colby dogs and blood for over 80 years until about the mid 1970's. Why do you think that is? The Colby blood never changed, nothing in - nothing out, still the same, if anything their more true to character, and more honest in many ways including pedigrees as compared to some you see today. I utilized pure Colby's as foundation crosses but don't breed alot into my dogs, don't breed alot period. A little can go along ways to improve ones stock if you breed it right. Also consider more dogs deserving of titles on paper don't have them then do, for various reasons. And the fact that persentages alone will tell you that the very best dogs to ever live no one knew depending on who owned them. The reply could go on and on to a question such as this.
The dog from Florida
reply to Druid   by Dawnrest
It's been along time since that question was asked. I talked to Bullard from Florida many years ago. He claimed a dog from him beat JEEP. From everything I know I believe JEEP truly won more than 3, and legitimately won 4. I read years ago about his 1 lose and it did match the info given to me by Bullard, who is the same man who quietly had many good dogs and who kept GR CH JOEY for a short while in Florida. It would be best to get ahold of him for more research on this issue as everything else is better heard from the owners. Good question considering JEEP blood is found in every state.
UNDERSHOT
reply to Roosevelt (donjuan)   by Dawnrest
YOU CAN LEARN MORE ON THE VARIOUS TYPES OF DENTITION AT THE DICTIONARY LINK. PERSONALLY I PREFER SCISSOR BITE, EVEN UNDERSHOT AND FOR SOME ODD REASON A WRY MOUTH. I DON'T CARE IF IT'S A LEVEL BITE, GRINDER BITE, SCISSOR BITE, UNDERSHOT, OVERSHOT OR A WRY MOUTH AS LONG AS IT CAN BITE AND KNOWS HOW. AN HONEST BULL DOG AND DOESN'T BITE PEOPLE. MY LEAST FAVORITE IS A PIG JAW, BUT ONE NEVER KNOWS. THE DIFFERENT DENTIN AND OTHER DIFFERENCES ALLOWED IN THE ANCESTRY OF SOME BULL BREEDS AS COMPARED TO MOST OTHER BREEDS IS INTERESTING, A GOOD THING. I DO PREFER THICK ENAMEL AND THIS IS OFTEN EXHIBITED IN CERTAIN COLBY DOGS. TO SUM IT UP, UNDERSHOT IS A "BULL DOG" CHARACTER AND THE AMERICAN PIT "BULL DOG" IS JUST THAT.
Baker Davis' CH MIDNIGHT COWBOY ROM
by Dawnrest
Did you know the black MIDNIGHT COWBOY dog was named after the movie MIDNIGHT COWBOY and the late Maurice Carver put his best dogs in the hands of Baker Davis. MIDNIGHT COWBOY / M C / MAURICE CARVER / M C . Did you know MIDNIGHT COWBOY was a 3 time Best in Show winner. Did you know MIDNIGHT COWBOY was once chosen out of 16 choices and CH CHIVO was a 2 time Best in Show winner.
MACHO, Laub's JESSE! "MIDNIGHT COWBOY"!!
reply to MDJ (jonesmd2)   by Dawnrest
MACHO is R. Wallings' BULLYSON ROM 2x x Art's (Carver's) MISSY ROM and JESSE is GR CH ART, JAVA, and CH MIDNIGHT COWBOY. Dawnrest dogs are this type blood because we have bred in these directions. Art's MISSY, MISS SPIKE has some Ed Crenshaw and Colby in her too. Some Dawnrest dogs and the Dawnrest strain have more of these dogs in them and still have many others compared to about any dogs. Many Dawnrest dogs have more ELI JR. and still have 300 times and upwards BULLYSON. And DUTCH BOY is closer to BOZE than BULLYSON. The bottom side of MIDNIGHT COWBOY and his offspring are color coded properly and go back to some of the best and older foundations the breed has known. Most young men try to change this fact because they don't understand the blood. The COWBOY dogs gave way to a fast popularity long ago and a few rivalries couldn't accept it, thereby causing controversy. The men who bred the ancestry followed it closely. They were calling it "COWBOY / CHIVO" before it was even known as the three dog combo. BULLYSON x Long's BABY is as close to right as it should be, blacks, buckskins and now and then a high ability black and tan can be thrown from COWBOY or CHIVO. Dawnrest dogs also have GR CH ART crossed with the HOMER blood. HOMER is down from inbred ELI JR. and in Dawnrest thats crossed with DUTCH BOY as well. I've been saying Boudreaux, Carver, Colby, etc. for years and many others are copying the program because it works. It does take alot of years to do right by it. Dawnrest dogs are "Not at Stud", at least not from me unless its to the right Dawnrest dog. There was a misprint long ago but there is always a chance with a dog bred like yours, so let me know everything you can about your dog, positive and negative, pedigree, pictures, age, offspring, character, all features, etc., I want to know everything.
Hello Dawnrest
reply to F.W.K. (Finkle Winkle)   by Dawnrest
Pete Sparks followed Spark's HUNKY blood close. He was proud of the 3 dog combo, knowing HUNKY was in those dogs. He told me his OCALA COWBOY was positively never bred. He also told me the Long's out of Hunter's was the bottom side of MIDNIGHT COWBOY which is the way the ADBA has it. Looking at all the related blood in DELTA and following all the great so called black & tans (CHIVO, BLACK & TAN BUCK, CHERRY, etc.) and red & tans from way back in COWBOY and looking at the dogs I've seen and owned off that blood, it's just more reason to believe his breeding. DELTA is another good example of crosses from that blood. I rubbed down BOSSMAN on a chain when he was 1. Pete was a smart and gifted man. He use to write me a bit and ask questions about the Colby family.

Old Delta is gone but not forgotten,he'd a tough tumbling life, with no offspring left.Pete & Randy gave me the dog as a gift,to rumble at here.Randy told that the Space Cowboy had told him,the black & tan came way back of Oiler, and how fond he was on these particulair colored ones.Keep up the good work!

reply to F.W.K. (Finkle Winkle)   by Dawnrest
I know he said that because OILER is double bred Harris' GOOSE which is CHIVO, PIGGY, thats the same COWBOY blood and OILER has some more in him too. As far as DELTA goes, don't forget what BOLT ACTION's top side is, and his brother RENO, its that blood again. Also BOLIO is related to the COWBOY blood. I'm glad you and I and a few others know how great those dogs are. That blood goes way back to Humphrey, Mossberg, etc. and on to Komosinski, Tudor, Colby and Dime etc., etc. Those black & tans trace back to many dogs including Shepards BLACK & TAN, a foundation dog to most APBT's and then back into Scotlands best. The old Bulldoggs are where those came from and we all know other breeds which have that coloration from the Bull Dog. Either way its interesting, Take Care F.W.K., Its good to see someone from the past now and then.

The breeding of Bossman and Domino was repeated,in the second litter was one male called Boston who'd won 2 and was b&t as well. Also Mr.Patrick seems to have a b&t stud strong in this blood as well.

I just wanted to let U know I got ur reply to the E-mail I sent U & am posting this message to let U know & also test to see if my account with ur board works. Was good hearing from U & glad to see that U still remembered us. Times are not so good in England with regards to the dogs & it is like a hitler state. They will try to bang U up in a heartbeat if they know U even are associated with them so that is one of the reasons I aint using my name here. Those snoopers from the English RSPCA are all over the place trying to put 2 & 2 together and track u down.
With the laws the way they are right here and now I am what u might liken to someone who likes a sport a lot, but doesn't participate.

No bloodlines (dogs) of my own but there are some that I like the look of. That's all.
Further (and I don't mean this as an offence to you) if I did have any dogs I would not be talking about it here. My original post highlighted this to some point in the way I said England treats dog owners. I am not saying you are, but you could be one of those R.S.P.C.A. people monitoring the web. On the other hand I could be. So my advice to you, if you own any dogs would not to be giving out your number out here for all to see. Alternatively you might wanna check yourself before you go making friends with regards to this game over the net, especially English ones. Things could turn out real bad for you and your dogs (if you got any) if you go down that road.
Without sounding bad. I sleep nicely knowing the people I know and staying an armchair sportsman with regards to the dogs as I don't wanna go down the dogdom road again and get nicked! You feel me friend. In an otherwise perfect world I would seriously call you tomorrow as we should all be friends here in this game, as Dawnrest was open and talked to me many years back. Thing is this ain't an ideal world and we all gotta watch our backs.
Let's keep the chat here and we can take it from there.
REDMAR DOGS OF BOSTON
reply to Shawn   by Dawnrest
Yes, the Redmar Dogs were also bred in New England, around Boston. Redmar, a.k.a. Red O'connor had a beautiful facility. It was similar to a superb small boarding facility. He bred and tested dogs while filming them on wired cameras. His dogs came from J. kelly, B. Neblett, C. Tenerowicz (from Connecticut) one of the best ever, ask L. Colby, J. Orday, B. Wise, etc. and were mostly L. Colby, B. Hemphill, E. Tudor, etc. He was quite influential with the dogs and many men used his blood. Ron a Gail and Lunetta also out of Mass. carried on some of his better blood. Red was also a taxi cab driver at one time in Boston. He was involved in the dogs at a time when other New England dog men were being recognized without the use of advertising. Men such as R. Petronelli, D. Jacobs, C. Tenerowicz, L. Derozier, J. Door, C. Card, L. Colby, A. Landry, etc., etc.. Many men from these areas were forgotten and many others came before and after these men, most not remembered. Redmar developed what could have and should have become a strain. He had good dogs with good ancestry in them. His dogs have now been in contact with hundreds of yards including F. Boudreaux, J. Connolly and myself. Some of his more famous dogs may be BIG MIKE, BENJAMIN, CAPTAIN KRUNCH, and IGOR. This is lost history, which i have never seen anyone write about, wish someone would. There always was good honest breeders in New England. The last 5 or 10 years things have really changed, everywhere.

I HAVE MANY COLBY CROSSES, I DON'T HAVE PURE COLBY DOGS ANYMORE, OF ALL THE PURE COLBY DOGS I'VE KNOWN, THE BEST I'VE SEEN IS THE BELLYMATES TO THE TIMEPIECE DOG SHOWN ABOVE AND STILL LIVING IN GEORGIA. ASK MR. ULMER MORE ABOUT HIM AND YOU'LL GET ANSWERS. THIS IS PURE COLBY'S DIME AND PURE OLD FAMILY COLBY WITH LOTUS STRONG AND WALLY, AND LOTS OF JILL - DOUBLE BRED DIME!!! GOOD LUCK FINDING GOOD COLBY IN A MAG., MANY OF THE BEST PROVEN COLBY DOGS ARE EVEN TODAY STILL OWNED BY TRUE GENTLEMEN. MUCH OF THE CROSSES TO ALL THE GREATEST DOGS ARE PART COLBY, SUCH AS THE GREAT MIDNIGHT COWBOY, BOLIO, RED DEVIL, BO, MISS SPIKE, BOOMERANG, RED BOY, ZEBO, ETC. AND MOST OF THE TOP STRAINS (ALTHOUGH THEIR GETTING RARE FROM MANY PEOPLE CHASING CHAMPIONS INSTEAD OF BREEDING TO THE ALL AROUND RIGHT DOG) LIKE NEBLETT, E. CRENSHAW, LOPOSAY, CORVINO, WALLER, KOMOSINSKI, HEINZL, ETC.., IF YOU WANT COLBY, GET THE COLBY YOU WANT! AS MAURICE CARVERS FATHER ONCE SAID, "COLBY IS AS IMPORTANT TO THE GAME DOG AS A CLARET IS TO A GAMECOCK".
OTHER BREEDS
reply to Ignoramus (Big Jim 1971)   by Dawnrest
I'M SURE AN APBT CHAMPION OR OTHERWISE HAS LOST TO OTHER BREEDS AND IN MANY BOOKS ESPECIALLY OLD BOOKS (1800's) THERE HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED CASES, SUCH AS TO A MONKEY, A BEAR, A LION, A BOAR, BUT FOR WHAT REASON, AND WHAT WAS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONDITIONER, HANDLER, TRAINER, ETC.? WHAT WAS THE ERA? A TOSA IS A BIG DOG, HEAVIER THAN MEN WOULD HAVE WANTED TO LIFT TO REPEATEDLY SCRATCH. UNDER TOSA RULES, IN HIS COUNTRY HE IS DECLARED THE WINNER IN TEN MINUTES IF HE SEEMS TO LOOK MOST DOMINANT. THE WINNING TOSA THEN RECIEVES A TROPHY COLLAR. OTHER BREEDS ARE NOT BRED TO BE UNDER COMPLETE CONTROL WHILE UNDER ADRENAL FLOW OR TO TOLERATE PAIN. THIS IS EXHIBITED BY THE MANY BREEDS THAT BITE THIER OWNERS WHEN THEY MISTAKENLY STEP ON THEIR FOOT, OR CHILDREN PULLING EARS, REMOVING QUILLS, ETC.. WE CAN ONLY SUSPECT THAT ANYONE THAT DID SUCH ACTIVITIES WAS AN IGNORAMUS OR A TIME FAR REMOVED. AFTER ALL THE MONEY AND TIME TO PROPERLY CONDITION AN ANIMAL I CAN'T IMAGINE TOO MANY PROFESSIONALS WOULD HAVE WASTED TIME AT A SANCTIONED MATCH AGAINST ANOTHER BREED. SAME BREED, SEX AND WEIGHT, YOU KNOW THIS. IT WOULD BE INHUMANE TO USE A PROVEN WINNING GAME PIT DOG AGAINST ANY OTHER BREED. THIS COULD INCLUDE MANY AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIERS OR AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIERS OR STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS EITHER NOT BRED FOR THIS PURPOSE OR NOT PROVEN ABLE FOR THIS PURPOSE. SO THIS WILL NOT BE DISCUSSED FURTHER HERE IN HOPES OF PREVENTING THE WRONG BREEDS OR DOGS FROM BEING USED FOR THE WRONG PURPOSES AND LEFT AS A HISTORICAL REVIEW.

The below shows that although the dog never beat Ch Bash & SBT's of this calibre are very rare, they can compete with APBT's:
"Scarecrow's Duke" was a SBT of "Rapparee" breeding with a reputation for giving a torrid time to some well-bred Pit bull's,not to mention leaving their owner's somewhat red-faced!The first was a game-tested Gino X Reid dog that had seen quite enough of Duke by the 42 minute mark.Next was a Bronson/Nelis dog with a reputation, who saw Duke as a warm-up to "Bigger & Better things" but half an hour in Duke's company was enough warming-up for this one!Duke was then matched against the very game, and future Champion "Scotsman's Bash",after a hard, evenly contested 1hr 30mins,it was becoming apparent that one of these game animals would have to take his death before a winner was found so Duke was picked-up by his owner, conceding the match but showing his desire to continue by giving a hard courtesy scratch. Duke wasn't bred very much for various reasons but apparently 2 or 3 of his son's are a chip of the old block causing the odd nightmare among the Pit bull's!. Duke passed away in 2001 at 15 year's old.
EYE COLOR
reply to Bulldog (ampride1)   by Dawnrest
I don't see why you get ribbed by your buddies. Bulldogs have always thrown either 1 blue eye or 2 blue eyes. This trait goes back in all the Bulldogs history, especially the better game dogs from Scotland. These were some serious dogs. I see dogs with eye color matching their pigmentation, I owned a dog with yellow eye lids, lips, toe nails, coat color, yellowish nose, and yellow gold illumination to the eyes (see the book "The Yellow Dog" by Harris). If the dogs good who cares what color the eyes are. I have seen a blue eye or eyes exhibited on about all unrelated Bulldog bloodlines. It's a good thing, it shows proper ancestry similar to a white tipped tail or a proper croup or rose ears or marble eyes. You may tend to get more blue eyes depending on the genetics of both parents. Even pure Old Family Colby dogs can have blue eyes. Blue eyes are not common in Dawnrest Dogs but when they are present, just like the black and tans they are often good dogs. Again, if the dogs good and makes you happy who cares what color the eyes are. Many great Bulldogs have been blind.
Brood Spectrum Wormer
reply to Wutang   by Dawnrest
There are many variations of canine worms. The proper wormer should be used only as needed or scheduled. Many men use Valbazen as a brood spectrum wormer instead of others such as the closely related Safeguard, and give just under the dosage required due to the fact dogs don't get liver flukes. This product is much less expensive and men have been using it in these areas for 9 years now with seemingly good results, however some worm medicine used for canines is not cleared for that purpose. It is not safer, just less expensive and should not be used for pups. Pyrantel pamoate is still the number one choice for common roundworm and hookworm in adults and pups. Droncit is still a top choice of vets but may require a prescription. You can buy Pyrantel Pamoate for humans as pinworm medicine. It is much less expensive then say Nemex II and much stronger, thereby requiring less product. If your positive it's just roundworms you may want to use the safest of old wormers, Piperazine. Ivermectin (Ivomec) is a brood spectrum wormer which is also used as heartworm preventative and is now less expensive under another brand name. It has been used with success for treating ear mites and mange mites if one knows the right scheduled dosage. There are still other species of parasites requiring other medicines. If you find one of those parasites I'll help you. Truly safe wormers probably don't work well at this point. Garlic, Eucalyptus and other natural and organics were said to work 100 years ago. I'm kind of old fashion so maybe a younger individual would know if there is a safer product that works well today. This is a start in helping you.

Here is a tape medicine that has been working well for many dog owners for years. It's low priced and easy to find. It's also safer than many. "HAPPY JACK" tapeworm tablets, a good thing is it's the old Dichlorophene medicine which works ok, but "HAPPY JACK" took it a bit further and added 2,2'methylenebis (4 chlorophenol). You still should withhold solid food for 12 hours and 4 hours after but men have told me that it worked even if they didn't. The good thing is it numbs the tape, causing them to release, and out they come, in segments which is easy on the dog. Another good thing, it costs just over $10. for 30 tablets, each is for 10 pounds and it's easy to figure your weight and enough for 300 pounds. Always keep the yard clean and the dogs without fleas and so on, so no tapeworms - Taenia pisiformis or Dipylidium caninum. You can also buy 34 mg. "Tape Worm Tabs", Praziquantel without a prescription now, it's more expensive, and works. It's about enough to do 2 dogs for $17. but includes the tape called the Echinococcus granulosus. And you can now buy "Wrm Clear", an all natural anthelmintic, fast with no side effects, no chemicals, no fasting required. It is just over $7. for 15 ml. and will do hundreds of pounds. It is safest, for common tapes, and can be given orally, in water or food. Adams NoMo is another similar to one of these, just another brand. I wouldn't recommend Ivomec for tape even though it works as a brood spectrum. In large doses it may cause damage to the nervous system. And as I said before, Valbazen is a brood spectrum and this helps with tapes too and I've heard using with one of the above, such as Praziquantel has been done in the past for severe infestations. There you go, "Happy Jack".

No-Mo Expeller
reply to J C  by Dawnrest
Adams No-Mo tapeworm expeller is similar to "Happy Jack", it requires food being withheld for 12 hours and a few hours after. Many toy breeds use this because you can break the pills into 1/4 for 2 lb. dogs. Each pill is for 5-10 lbs.. It is assumed by some as not as safe and is not given to old, young, sick or pregnant dogs. It is Arecoline Hydrobro-mide. It is more expensive than "Happy Jack" at just over $5. for a 15 count box. Good to hear from you.
