| THE MASCOT He was a dog, his name was Jiggs, The mascot of the fleet. He read the log, he knew the gigs, A master canine feat. He had no claim to pulchritude But he was staunch and true, He had the naval attitude For the Red, White and Blue. He had a ken worthy of note. The navy was his world. At morn he saw the colors float, Each evening saw them furled. He mixed with admiral and cook, In fact, the whole darn crew, And like the sailor had his nook 'Neath the Red, White and Blue. At last the navy mascot died, He ended his career. From battle he had never shied, Had never known of fear. They buried him with heavy heart, His pally days were through, No more he'd play his loyal part 'Neath the Red, White and Blue. |
