| With a SONG in His HEART Dan the Doggone Dog, one of the winners of the 1997 Advantage Flea Control Best Singing Pet contest, helped kick off the second annual Search for North America's Best Singing Pet during the Big Dogs Great L.A. Dog Walk at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Dan, with owner / accompanist Gary McCarthy, joined more than 8,000 walkers to benefit the Los Angeles SPCA and showed off the singing talent that won him rave notices from Jay Leno, Ricki Lake and others in the know during his reign as canine Caruso after last year's contest. McCarthy , who plays guitar and harmonica in Dan's "band", also keeps Dan's food bowl full at their Altadena, Calif., home while they wait for their next gig. "Dan's the talent", McCarthy said. "I'm just the backup". Career possibilities Dan's mulling include a compact disc, a singing-dog nightclub and a stand-up (or Sit) comedy routine. |
